You must get an experience letter from the companies you have worked with. Otherwise, the new company may not believed you when you say that you have worked with this company for so and so period. This document basically validates your experience.

What is the difference between relieving letter and experience letter?
The relieving letter format may be a bit different from the experience letter format even though both of them are almost the same. The hairline difference between them is that of the time at which they are issued. Relieving letter is issued only when the employee is leaving the organisation and experience letter can be issued which the employee is working with the organisation.
What should your experience letter state?
There are several things that an experience letter must have, they are joining and leaving date, the major achievements, behaviour and comment from the office about the employee. Whatever is written, it should be written on company letterhead.
